2012 so far...
So 2012 has been a mammoth year so far - non stop manic since returning to York from the fun and games of my experiment at Rutherford Appleton Labs last November. Ive completed a couple of major milestones for my own personal development and those for my career too which has been a total rollercoaster.
Training and running the Reading Half Marathon pretty much took over my life from January to April, i went through the highs of peak fitness and the lows of over training, and the utter relief and joy of finishing the race in a great time of 1:48:25 - ive not been more proud of many things in my life :) it was an epic day, after training through the ice, snow, rain and freezing temperatures of the winter, race day saw me going home with sunstroke...! Fail!
Anyway, straight after this race i was off to the IoP Plasma physics group annual conference to do my first 'proper' conference talk on my data. This was probably the scariest thing ive done ever (Academically i mean!) - 100 planet brain physicists all waiting for an original result....gulp. However it went fine after many beers in the previous few days and i trundled off home to nurse my poor legs having been racing on Sunday, and gone straight into a 4 day nerd-fest. The last hurdle of the major hurdles apart from moving house again, was the completion of my UKCC L2 coaching, which was mid-April. The students that i had in this time and the support i had from other coaches and paddlers, some from YCC and some from outside - were absolutely instrumental in me achieving this, everyone has been fantastic and the feedback has been great. I hope that i can continue to do them all justice in the future by working with them some more :)
So, three things that just a year or so ago i would never have seen myself doing, so a good start to the year on all fronts and just made me realise just how lucky i was to have the chance to do all of these things and enjoy them with people who were just as passionate about them as i am :)
Update to be continued...
