A bit of morning inspiration with hills and heroes
So this really is turning into the blog of the amateur hill runner!
It seems that the mroe i read, the more im staggered by human physical endurance. Back in 2008/9 when i was training for my first half marathon, I thought that was a true challenge, and that marathons were for the elite. Now, I find out there are ultras, skylines, and big UK rounds - the BG, Paddy Buckley or Ramsay and people actually do them - supported but its still their legs carrying them at the end of the day right?! Oooft.
Ive recently done a big run (for me!) and im at here at my desk feeling the need to highlight a couple of the heroes of the fell running world ive just started to learn about!
Sarah Ridgway (Run Snowdonia) - well, this woman has currently taught me everything I know, and she is just brill. My description of her to others is as a teeny, tiny, smiley, happy, bouncey, mountain BEAST! She's unstoppable! And in her words, staging a comeback, not that I thought she ever left! She set the womens record on the Snowdon horseshoe in 2011 and has such passion for the mountains. She was recently in the Lakes Sky Ultra as well, where she claimed victory and a new ladies CR 8:38:46. Incredible, I wouldnt be doing half as well if it wasnt for her to be totally honest, best kick up the ass I ever got. This is a nice video of her in the hills, I really liked it :)

Ive just been reading the blog of Jasmin Paris....that woman is a machine, and an inspiration...I just saw a wonderful post of her getting married essentially on a trail run, and about her running in the hills barefoot when she had achilles tendonitis....theres a solution! What a trooper - although the feeling of being on the startline of the UTMB or the Tromso race or the Buff Ultra that she did, makes me feel sick inside, I am in awe of the lady. She remains a human being talking about her diet of prosecco and cake eating leading up to the huge buff race, so she still manages to have a life and not take it all too seriously whilst being on top of her game - she sounds like the happiest woman alive. Just found an article about the Berghaus Dragons Back race....this is insane.
Jasmin also speaks of a guy called Joss Naylor as well, who lives in Cumbria (no surprise the place seems to breed trail runners!) and just goes off and does the pennine way and then gets back to work and just got on with it, the sounds of some of the gear they used to use in the 70's, no wonder he's hard as nails. He's been fell running for decades, and is also an MBE! Wiki here, and a youtube video about him in general here....hero.
(and a really long interview video too!)
Wow. Im sure that there are loads of others that I dont know about yet, but honestly, as if these two aren't enough inspiration (and potentially a weeny bit of intimidation too!), and perspective, for one day!
