Ben Cruachan, Stob Diamh and Meall Bhuiridh

Today I took a day for myself, its due to be the last of the good weather this week so decided to make the most of it as i'm not sure what ill be up to over the weekend!

Got up and out the door just before 8 in the end, on the hill by 945am ish. Not sure entirely, but later than i hoped but not bothered, such a nice day its hard to be bothered about much! Found the layby easily thanks to the enforced recce the other day when the A82 was shut on the way back from the Mamores. Anyway. Set off in lovely spring sun, ahead of another guy who was annoyingly tailing me by like 100m or so, but meh, tried my best to ignore it and gained enough time to have a pee without him catching up...tehehehe.

First peek of the dam! A truly awesome structure
Got to the col within like, 2 hours and was on the summit of Ben Cruachan via Meall Cuanail in 2 hours. The climbs were rocky and fun. Lots of loose stuff but it was great in the dry as you could rock hop a lot, and lots of interesting wee rocky steps to get over!

The ridge was great fun, the downhills were again, loose and stuff but it was awesome up there nonetheless, there are a few out and backs that I didn't do but ah well, ill just have to go back! :P

I found myself at the end of the ridge and on the way down toward Lairig Torran, looking forward to Beinn a Bhuridh straight ahead. It looks like there is no sensible way up and to be honest, its a bushwhack but its over really fast!! I was on the ridge before I knew it. Amazing view back across the horseshoe and down to the reservoir.

The ridge looking majestic!

The last descent down have to be honest, went on a bit. Quite steep tussocky grass was a bit heavy on the knees, but down the tracks and back at the van before I knew it, for like 330 or something so I decided to have a peer at the visitor centre i've heard about, what a great idea that was!
There is a great exhibit of the power station, everything from photos in the 1920's when they were building it, all the way up to present day. I had no idea that they LITERALLY carved it out of the mountain... what a colossal engineering effort. Toddled off for a coffee, nattered with the cafe lady, sat in the sun, watched the birds at the bird table....and properly relaxed for the first time in ages.

Cant resist one last look back! The dodgiest stile in the world!
Then, drove back down the road at a leisurely pace. This was just the day I was hoping it would be.
