The Ardeche 11th - 14th July 2010 Day 2

So the river begins today, we start off the day with a long wait for the kids to arrive and eventually watch the river talk and head out about 1.30pm. We each shadowed an instructor, i was put with Rosie who was lovely :) the kids were well funny, i think they were from sheffield but i cant pinpoint the accent! We paddled from Vallon Pont d'Arc and did the day 1 of their river trip - about 4km, where we left the kids and carried on towards the bivvy site - I think it was Bivouac Gardouin or something like that! It was about another 12km for Day 2, we ended on a rapid nicknamed Lamas, which we followed a rent-a-crash down and saw this man and his small boy capsize before getting pushed through a wave which left the boy scared and shivering and the man very embarassed, but between me and one of the other lads we came over and rescued them and their paddles - and they bivvied at the campsite we were at too so we knew that they were ok :) All in all a wicked day, shadowing instructors, performing rescues where necessary and working on our group control and the first steps in river leading... :) awesome
