Cornworld 5th - 14th October 2012

Wow, this week was awesome, after much deliberation and spurring on from Dave, i actually bought that Jackson Star 2010 that i always wanted and its soooo shiny!!! It arrived to the York Plasma Institute labs rather than straight to the office, so i ran round to get it in the van right away and brought it into the common room for inspection where of course, i sat in it, and of course, the guys thought it would be great to try and pick me up.. lol...
Not sure the roll was going to work!

Spike sae the opportunity to tip me in head first!

Anyways, one pool session saw me off to Cornwall with Dave that Saturday morning, its clearly a good idea to take a brand new boat to a brand new environment....hehehehe. Anyways, a quick visit to drop off the MOST battered burn shell ive ever seen with the man Don who likes to restore these things into C1's apparently....:S and we were on our way for about 5 hours to Bude, in Cornwall, home for the next week! And WHAT a home it was, its literally the nicest place ever! The evening we arrived saw the cracking open of several bottles of wine and much chatting until the wee hours, a good start i thought! Day 1 was a few hours surfing at Summerleaze, where  the first wave the got me, i was on my face and out my boat before i knew which was was up much to the amusement of the others! I did a lot of playing around in the shallows and getting a lot of waves in the face, a 2-3ft swell that day which wasnt a bad start. Good time spent getting used to the new boat...which ended up with a few more scratches in it!
Summerleaze on a crisp day...2-3ft ish, little wind...playtime!

He looks so happy but  then his bum got stuck

Look a firemans pole....

...and monkey bars! :D :D

Day 2 - we looked at Summerleaze and after a few deliberations decided to drive up to the next beach (which i cant remember the name of) and then ended up at Widemouth just down the road, a different beach, much larger, bit more exposed and if there is surf to be had, itll hit here so off we went. I spent another day catching broken waves in the shallows, getting egged on by the others to head out...an figured out that my boat likes to flat spin and backsurf! Im sure John has a video of me shooting by backwards!
Day 3 - We went back to Widemouth, but this time, the weather closed in and not wanting to write off the day, Dave and I manned up and went out surfing in this....and you know what? It was a really good couple of hours, caught a couple of waves from further out and it was cold but do-able for 2 hours!
Widemouth Day 2
Widemouth Day 3 - where'd the beach go?!
Yep, we surfed in this. It was cold.

With the Fawcetts in the pub :) yeaaaa

..I wish to point out at the point that i have been surfing in a cag and boardies in October for 3 days by now, it was BALTIC. Not recommended! Day 4 was back at Widemouth, I spent a final day getting pummelled in the face and was finally starting to grow a pair and was thinking of getting out there...I was getting thrown around forwards, backwards, sideways...! In the end, the weather was nice, I finally grew a pair enough to wade out there and surf properly...and it was epic! There is no video footage unfortunately,  but, with Garys help, caught a nice 6-8 footer, ran forwards and as i ramped up the wave to the pile, got planing and dropped the 8ft or whatever, the look on my face apparently was classic! I was beaming from ear to ear and couldnt believe i managed to stay up! omg! I waded out and caught another one, which was also awesome, but this time surfed down it with Dave which was awesome and finally, i thought id wait around for one last one before we turned in, and i waited and waited, and then got absolutely trashed on a set that came in at god knows what height and i was over vertical on the face of it and then it broke on my head! Not the way i wanted to end the day but it was certainly funny!

Bowling Action :)
Jenga Action!

We all went bowling randomly, and had much antics with bottles of wine and garden Jenga indoors, it got a bit ridiculous but it was a great way to chill and pass time between surfing trips :)

That sadly, was the end of our paddling that week, we awoke on the Friday morning to the weather blowing a gale and a white staircase at Widemouth, so we jacked it in for a random mystery tour on the coast and a pasty :)

So, anyone want to get on?! ....

Nahhhhhh....!
King of the world!
Awesome
During the week we also went to Mega, where Dave got some time in Chris' boat, which is a neutron, and ended up leaving cornwall, a boat down in lieu of a shiny new one...hehehe i didnt think he could resist! Roll on next surfing trip!
Saying goodbye...
Chris' Neutron for a quick demo...

So that was that, first time really ever surfing except a one day'er in a Pyranha h2 at Rhosneiger, and I feel like i got the hang of it a bit at the end, Dave got a new boat, we all had a fab time and i met a load of very cool people :) An awesome week :) Thanks to everyone for having me :)....Until next time....FAB
