Ben Ledi Ascent 2016

So Sarah told me to get out racing so here I go, my first race solo! Its only 9.5k, but its a longer single climb than ive done before, a total of 740m ascent with a good 90% of it in the main slog up.

The start of the race was nowhere NEAR as painful as the beginning of Tal-y-Fan, im still traumatised by that road. Was entirely pleasant, we had zigzags and then before we knew it, the path undulated and we reached the turnoff to the main track to the shoulder. The path up to it, and then the path up the shoulder and onto the summit was probably 80% powerwalking to be totally honest, it was weird and I wondered at points if it was still a running race but sure enough, wherever I could I ran, whether it was 2 or 20 steps! It was a slog but it was totally do-able, felt pretty tired but good at the top was just a bit jelly-legged on the first bit of the ridge but soon picked up my feet and got on as fast as I could. The guys that I had overtaken on the uphill were soon on my tail as well, i'm starting to feel the need for a set of actual trail shoes that aren't like slicks! Once the worst of the descent was over and we were in the glen, it was good fast trail all the way back to the zigzags, and bombed it back to the start line. Total time 1h17mins 18s, which was good enough for 5th lady in the race, and 4th in my category, 38th out of 78 overall! Well happy with that :D

Im pretty sure I wouldnt have done this unless Sarah had said to me, GET INTO RACING so, im sure I owe her a debt of gratitude for this!! :D

The race details are on scottish hill racing, and im going to see if there are any photos asap! yey!

Isi is coming through tonight too on the way back to Harris so im sure that we can have a glass to celebrate, and I think were going out for a walk tomorrow so I hope that will be good! :D
