Exploring the three sisters with Catherine

So I intended initially to take Catherine out to the Ben Cruachan range, but after a super long day yesterday, decided to get up a bit later and head to Glencoe instead. It was a bluebird sky day, hardly a breath of wind, taps aff weather all day, so it was rude not to!

We intended to head up into the lost valley, and depending on how we felt, potentially go up the back of the valley to Stob Coire Sgreamhach and see the views on whats set to be an epic day. Setting off from the flat at 1030am, we got up into the layby on the A82 for like 1pm, a nice casual start!
We wandered into the lost valley in the sun, changing into shorts and vest on the way - was so nice to get the legs out for once! We hit the valley and got some nice pics, chatted about navigation and maps and things, and feeling pretty psyched by the valley so far, we decided to head up to the Sgreamhach track, and see how we got on!

And the shorts are ON! Top of the lost valley
Well, it would be rude not to ... right?!

Turns out we made it up there in about an hour, and set off for the summit from the col for summit sandwiches, and our first instalment of herbal tea for the day. Plus, hungry people like me love people like Catherine on the hill,... she brought the best snacks! It was such a lovely day, we could see Bidean nam Bian tempting us over... we made pretty good time on the way up and decided to go for it!
Selfie time!! :D Summit of Sgreamhach
Fire down there... heather burning? The view.... gah.

Bidean wasn't too much effort, and the views were awesome. We hadn't eaten much all day so we had another snack/herbal tea stop as by now its about 430pm or after. A smattering of nav to make sure we hit the right summit, and we headed off toward Stob Coire nan Lochan, the third peak of the day. Heading off of Stob Coire non Lochan the right way is kinda important so we had a brief chat about that, another tea stop.... (look how excited she is about the tea!)
Sorry Catherine, but I love this photo!! :D

....and headed off west along the ridge to get into the corrie, and saw some cool rocks that looked rather like the giants causeway...not sure its the same process though cause its rhyolite up here...right?!
Headed off down into the corrie by a grassy slope and tramped our way across the bottom of all the climbs, and down the slog up path, and back to the van in about an hour! The light was beautiful on the way out and we went off to the Clachaig Inn for some well deserved tea, and rushed out again before they shut the road for the night. Back to town for dark at 10pm...and sleep. What a great day.

It was so refreshing to go out on the hill with such an enthusiastic soul! Catherine is so up for getting out on the hills and its a totally infectious and I ended up going on all day with random little stories, factoids and all kinds of philosophical talk about the hills and why I love it so much, brilliant. Heres to more days like that, and that Catherine has more confidence to get out on more hill days... watch out Aonach Eagach...she's coming to get you!
